FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is chelated iron EDTA and how does it work?
Iron EDTA uses Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid chelation to protect iron from precipitation, maintaining availability in soils up to pH 7.0. Unlike iron sulfate which quickly becomes unavailable in neutral soils, EDTA keeps iron soluble and accessible to plants. It's 3-5x more effective than iron sulfate and remains available even with moderate alkalinity.
When should I use EDTA vs DTPA or EDDHA?
Use EDTA for soils pH 4.0-7.0 (most cost-effective for slightly acidic to neutral). Choose DTPA when soil pH is 6.5-7.5 or with alkaline irrigation water. Select EDDHA for very alkaline soils above pH 7.5. EDTA is the sweet spot for most gardens with neutral pH.
How do I apply iron EDTA for best results?
Foliar spray gives fastest results (7-14 days): Mix 1-2 tsp/gallon for prevention, 1 tbsp/gallon for severe deficiency. Apply early morning or evening. Soil drench lasts longer: Apply 1-2 tbsp/gallon around root zone. Best to combine both methods for immediate and sustained control.
Which plants benefit most from iron EDTA?
Acid-loving plants are most susceptible: azaleas, rhododendrons, roses, citrus, berries, gardenias, and petunias. Also important for vegetables like tomatoes and peppers, houseplants in soilless mixes, and any plants grown with alkaline irrigation water.
How fast will I see results?
Foliar applications show greening in 7-14 days. Soil applications take 2-3 weeks but last 4-6 weeks. For severe chlorosis, use foliar for quick correction plus soil application for sustained control. Continue applications until new growth is fully green.
